A 200 ml can is also available in the market and online. The 125 ml cans come in a pack of 6 but the 200 ml ones are sold individually too.
Nutrition Label
While the list of ingredients mentions milk solids, turmeric (1%), sugar, we noticed that a few vital points were missing. The type of haldi used or the levels of curcumin the beverage provides have not been mentioned. These two bits of information about the core ingredient (Haldi) were very crucial and if added would have provided more information about the product.
Amul Haldi Doodh also contains artificial flavoring substances – Kesar and Badam. There is no mention of preservatives; the shelf life is of 180 days.
Opening the can
The pack recommends that you shake the can well before opening it. As soon as you open the can, the strong Haldi-aroma is unmissable. It’s fresh and natural, and resembles homemade Haldi doodh. We noticed smaller, darker specks of Haldi floating around upon pouring it in transparent glass.
Color
The beautiful, almost golden, yellow color is very appealing and you instantly are reminded of your homemade haldi doodh.
Consistency
The consistency is perfect – not too thick like a milkshake but not watered down either. It’s a lot like the consistnecy of full-cream milk.
Taste
We could clearly get a whiff of Kesar (saffron) and badam (almonds) apart from the obvious Haldi aroma. We tried the Amul Haldi Doodh at room temperature and it was seriously yummy. Haldi doodh is often thought of as a beverage that is consumed when you’re sick, but this delicious avtaar of Haldi doodh will change your perspective. Unlike some canned milk products, the Amul Haldi Doodh is not industrial-tasting.
The only thing that didn’t work for us were the little strands of malai that sprouted up in between. If you like malai, that won’t bother you at all.
Now, talking about innovation! Well, it’s not something that Indians are not aware of but the timing of the product is perfect. For people who are looking for easy solutions to find haldi doodh on the go, especially during the pandemic, this can be a good product.
Mishry Kids Review
We asked all the Mishry Kids to try it out and their facial expressions were conclusive enough that the kids would not appreciate this product!
Final Words
Amul was very true to its claim and delivered what it promised – Haldi Doodh. As simple as that! The Amul Haldi Doodh is a beautiful yellow colored beverage that is delicious and has balanced levels of sweetness. The taste and aroma were very pleasing, but we wished the nutrition label had some more details.
