GOOD!
Summary
While these are fresh, rustic-tasting laddoos with a prominent ghee flavor, they could have been better if they had an aromatic (like cardamom/saffron) or a slightly softer texture.
From dahi to chocolates to butter and decadent cookies, Amul needs no introduction and rightly so! Their entry into the Indian dessert segment led us towards the frozen rasmalai and now to the motichoor laddoo.
We bought a pack and rated it on parameters like taste, texture and freshness. Could these laddoos give competition to your local halwai walas? Our Amul Motichoor Laddoo Review explores just that!

Our Review Experience
This comes in an attractively packed box where all the laddoos are intact. Unlike some packaged laddoos, these are not squished together or broken. (See image)
Amul’s Motichoor Laddoo is a delightful throwback to the local halwai shop. Its strong ghee aroma takes center stage, followed by a sweet undertone that thankfully avoids being overpowering. The texture deviates from the traditional melt-in-your-mouth experience as the laddoo have a slightly granular, crystallized bite.
We appreciate the generous inclusion of cashews and pistachios, providing a delightful crunch. The clean ingredient list is a plus, with no preservatives being used. It does use artificial coloring though.
The absence of aromatic enhancements like cardamom or saffron might be a deal-breaker for some.
Overall, Amul’s Motichoor Laddoo offers a genuine, old-school taste that will appeal to those craving a rustic, desi sweet. It’s a treat for those who enjoy the unadulterated flavors of ghee and sugar.
- Balanced sweetness
- Decent freshness
- Similar to local halwaiwalas. Authentic, local halwai taste
- Hygienically packed in a premium box
- Nuts are fresh and crunchy. Generous with cashews and pistachios
- Fairly clean ingredient list
Not really a positive or a negative, but very subjective: the aroma of ghee, although inviting, could be overwhelming for some.
- The slightly crystalized sugar sitting atop the laddos reduced the softness.
- Not melt-in-your-mouth soft.
- Lack of aromatic enhancements might not appeal to all
If fresh, hygienic laddoos are scarce where you are – the ones by Amul could be a decent option for you.
