Our Review Process
The Mishry office was excited with the rustling Haldiram namkeen packets. We chose a mixed age group team for the tasting. We did this so that we could get a good and fair opinion on how different age groups and taste buds react to these namkeens and spice levels. A blind tasting was not possible for this review because we all knew which namkeen looks like what even before the process had started.
These namkeens were tasted over a span of two days. On both days we tasted them side-by-side. We conducted the tasting session over a span of two days because we didn’t want the namkeen flavor to overpower and misguide our taste buds.
After multiple tastings and lots of chatter later – we chose our Top Picks.
Tip – Add bhujia on top of your poha. It’s delish!
The Contenders – Best Haldiram’s Bhujia and Sev
1. Haldiram’s Plain Bhujia
The plain bhujia has small pieces of sev. Flavor-wise, it is very mild in every department. If you like mild namkeens, this might be for you but it’s not very tasty when had on its own. It was not the crunchiest amongst the lot either.
2. Haldiram’s Bhujia
The spiciest of the lot, Haldiram’s bhujia is also a top pick.
3. Haldiram’s Aloo Bhujia
This namkeen won as our top pick for the classic bhujia.
4. Haldiram’s Nimbu Masala
Our top pick, the Haldiram Nimbu Masala tastes great.
5. Haldiram’s Long Sev
This namkeen was soft and not very crunchy. It gives a massive black pepper hit. It is a medium-sized sev. Although the long sev is very spicy, it is also very flavorful. The besan flavor tastes really good.
6. Haldiram’s Pudina Sev
The pudina sev is very thin and has an almost unnatural green color. The minty flavor comes towards the end, but there’s also a hint of a bitter aftertaste that we didn’t quite enjoy. Flavor wise, the namkeen is slightly salty and medium spicy.
7. Haldiram’s Methi Sev
The methi sev is chunkier and drier than the other counterparts. The bigger the chunks get, the drier it becomes. It has a natural methi bitterness to it, which is good. This is mildly spicy, the seasoning is balanced. However, the overall balance between methi, besan and spices is missing.

The Parameters – How We Reviewed
With every review we conduct, we choose valid and important parameters that are the main deciding factors for a certain product to become a top pick. For our review of Haldiram namkeens, we chose three categories –
1. Taste
It’s obvious that for any food product we buy, the taste is paramount. Our first and most important parameter was how good the namkeens tasted overall without singling out any one particular flavor.
2. Crunch
Did the namkeen have appropriate crunch or was it a soggy snack no one asked for? Our winner was decided after answering one very important question – Which namkeen had the maximum crunch?
3. Seasoning
Seasoning of the namkeen is a very crucial deciding factor. Some had methi, some had lemon, some had pudina. Too spicy, too bland or just plain over-salted? We settled on our winner when it won us over without being too artificial, flavor-wise.
