Our Experience with the skillet
Before starting our review, we cleaned the skillet using a mild detergent, some warm water, and a soft brush. The skillet was completely dried and seasoned with a light brush of oil. (we followed the same cleaning process after each use). Make sure you re-season the skillet after washing.
In addition to a gas/electric stove, this skillet can also be used in an oven. We seared and seasoned some chicken, as usual, using the skillet on a gas stove. This partially cooked chicken was then transferred to our Faber Oven.
Additionally, we also prepared some chicken salami and vegetable frittatas with the skillet in the oven.
The results? Perfectly baked and appetizing!
Next, we used this cast iron skillet over a gas stove. The first dish was Aloo Methi Mutter sabzi. Preparing this was hassle-free. No spices or veggies were sticking to the surface but the dish was cooked through.
The second dish was Lobia curry. The onion-tomato gravy cooked well, and so did the final curry.
Lastly, we prepared a breakfast staple- protein-rich omelets. We cooked it on one side for around three minutes, and the omelet flipped effortlessly. No bits were stuck to the surface.
Ladles and spoons – Unlike non-stick cookware, you can use a metal spoon on cast-iron pots and pans. We used both, steel and a wooden spatula and found both to work well.
Overall experience – We found that cooking is fuss-free and beginner-friendly. Though it may seem steeply-priced, this skillet is a worthy investment that would last for generations, thanks to its construction and material.
That said, the only drawback is when it comes to handling the skillet. The handle retains heat when in use. We recommend using an oven mitt or a kitchen towel to lift the skillet.
