Our Review Factors
What are we looking for? We were looking for a sturdy tool that helped us make round rotis and pooris consistently.
We reviewed Case Plus Manual Stainless Steel Roti Press on the following parameters :
1. Design
The material that this is made of will ultimately affect the sturdiness. What are the handles made of? Is there a silicone or plastic grip on the handle? Does the base move a lot while using or is it stable? Is the circumference of the inner plate big enough to make an average sized roti?
2. Ease of Use
What can you use it for? How easy is this to use on a daily basis? Usability and ease of cleaning and storage were covered under this factor. Are the handles easy to use, press and move?
3. Other Factors
Packaging – How well is this packed? Any damages?
Price – Considering that this is priced at Rs 749, is this tool value for money?
Warranty – Does it come with a warranty? If yes, what is the warranty for?
Product Dimensions -What is the circumference of the inner plate? How does that affect the size of the roti?
Case Plus Manual Stainless Steel Roti Press – Detailed Review
Packaging – This roti press arrived in a brown carton. Inside the Amazon carton, there is another carton which is by the brand. It is then wrapped in a plastic pack. There isn’t a lot of information/details on the box. The grip part is detached and you will need to attach it yourself with the screw provided in the box.
Price and warranty – There is no MRP written on the box, but we bought it for Rs 749/- via Amazon. No warranty period mentioned on the box and neither is any card enclosed inside.
Dimensions – The circumference of the inner plate (the area to make chapati) is approximately 7 inches, which would be ideal to make small chapatis or pooris.
Design – The roti press has a stainless steel body and the grip has a plastic cover over the steel base. The stand is also made out of plastic and the base is anti-skid which helps keep the tool stable. The inner plates on which we make the rotis and pooris are also made with stainless steel. The edges/rims have a bit of rough finish, so some caution is required while washing this.
How does this work? Just place the dough between the plates and press it between the plates using the handle. The pressure applied will turn this into a poori/chapati. How did we try this? We tried making rotis and pooris.
Our experience – First things first, the chapati press only works when you apply oil on both sides. If no oil is applied, the dough ball will stick to the surface (yes, with the dry flour as well).
The struggle comes with the size and thickness as well. If we use a small dough ball, then the roti is very small (like a large kachori). If we increase the size of the dough ball, the roti is larger but very thick (7 inch diameter, after pressing 4 times). It is not like a homemade phulka.
It is extremely easy to make pooris in this, but when we tried making rotis, it seemed like a struggle. Maybe you can make parathas, but the layers would be lost.
Pros
- Anti-skid base.
- Easy to make pooris in this, especially if you’re making them in large quantities.
- This has a good grip.
Cons
- Not meant for making chapatis.
- You need to oil both sides before starting.
- The finish of the edges could have been better.
Best Suited For
This is best suited to make pooris in large quantities. The process is easy, and the effort is lower than your regular chakla-belan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some interesting FAQs on Case Plus Manual Stainless Steel Roti Press.
1. Is this roti press dishwasher safe?
There is nothing mentioned on the box about this. But going purely by experience, we feel this would take up too much space in the dishwasher. It is better to clean it immediately after use with soap and sponge.
2. Can this roti press be used for preparing tortillas?
Yes and no. You can make tortillas but they won’t be too thin or too big. Tortillas are generally larger than average sized rotis and that won’t be possible with this due to the size restriction of the stainless steel plates.
3. Is roti presser value for money?
If you are someone who prepares pooris regularly, this is definitely a value for money buy.
4. Can oil be used in roti pressers?
Yes. Using oil is a must when using this roti presser for making pooris.
5. Can parathas be also prepared in this roti press?
Technically, you can make parathas with this roti press but they would not be layered. Parathas have layers that would not form with this roti press as everything would get squished.
Final Verdict
Making pooris? In large quantities? This is an extremely convenient tool that eliminates the use of chakla-belan. A swift press between plates and you have the perfect poori – thickness and size wise. This doesn’t perform as well for chapatis. For that, extra effort is required and the size is much smaller than average.
