Mishry Rating
Summary
Sundrop 5 Minute Yum Pasta clearly needed more than five minutes to prepare. While the taste and texture were fairly average, this is comparatively lower in calories and fat.
Typically, instant noodles and pastas are prepared using refined wheat flour and can sometimes be fried too. This new launch by Sundrop is made using suji and claims to have 70% less fat as compared to contenders.
In our Sundrop 5 Minute Yum Pasta review, we discuss the taste and texture but also shed light on the nutrition quotient and compare it against other commercially available instant noodles and pastas.

Our Review Factors
What were we looking for while reviewing Sundrop Pasta?
Taste, texture, and the nutrition quotient were the primary parameters of our review. They have been discussed in detail below.
1. Taste
This has a ‘Saucy red sauce’. Did the pasta have the classic tangy flavors like a tomato-based sauce does? What about salt and the overall seasoning?
Does this suji pasta absorb flavors as well as regular pasta?
2. Texture
Was the ‘5-minute’ claim delivered as promised? Al dente or cooked to perfection, how was the texture after 5 minutes?
How is the sauce to pasta proportion? Does it become too soft and split open or maintains its shape and texture?
3. Nutrition Quotient
‘70% less fat than instant noodles’ is a bold claim made by the brand. Does the brand deliver on it or is it a marketing gimmick?
We also scanned the list of ingredients and nutrition label.
4. Convenience
Does this pasta cook in five minutes, as claimed? What all comes in the pack and does it call for additional ingredients from the pantry?
5. Other Parameters
Here we recorded other parameters like the price, packaging, shelf life, ease of cooking and more.
Sundrop 5 Minute Yum Pasta – Detailed Review
Price & Packaging
Sundrop Pasta was packed in an amber-colored pack. The sauce was inside the larger pack, packed in a separate pouch.
A 200-gram pack is priced at Rs 60/- and has a shelf life of 12 months.
Main Ingredients
Assorted pasta- Suji
Pasta Sauce– Tomato paste, water, sugar, onions, refined edible soybean oil, iodized salt, garlic paste, green chilli paste, emulsifier (lecithin), red chilli, ginger paste, acidity regulator (citric acid), spices and condiments (oregano powder, black pepper powder), stabilizer (xanthum gum), parsley flakes.
This also contains wheat and soy.
100 grams of Sundrop Pasta has 132 Kcal whereas instant noodles generally have 190-250 Kcal for the same quantity. However, 100 grams of instant noodles offer 13-14 grams of fat, whereas Sundrop Pasta contains only 4 grams of fat/100 grams. So the 70% less fat claim stands correct.
How we made it
There were no specifications regarding the quantity of water to be added while cooking.
So we boiled the pasta for five minutes and drained it. In another pan, we poured (cooked) the sauce followed by the boiled pasta, and let this mix cook for a couple more minutes.
It was served warm and the taste test began.
Taste & Texture
The pasta was a mix of penne, macaroni, and fusilli. After boiling the pasta for 5 minutes, only macaroni had turned soft but the other two were still al dente.
Then we cooked the sauce for three minutes, without adding any water followed by adding the pasta. The quantity of the sauce was sufficient to coat all the pasta but not enough for a ‘saucy’ pasta. This was quite dry. The sauce was quite thick and some pieces of pasta took on more of the sauce as compared to others.
Taste-wise, the salt levels were spot-on, no adjustments needed here. It must be noted that we did not add salt while boiling the pasta. The primary flavor was a tomato-like tang. This was too bold that it did not let other ingredients shine. Pepper and chilli had taken the back seat and only the herby flavors of oregano could be tasted.
- This contains no refined wheat flour.
- It has marginally lower calories.
- The claim of 70% less fat is true.
- The sauce was too thick.
- It coated the pasta unevenly.
- Tomato was the most prominent and dominating flavor.
- We could not taste the chilli and pepper heat.
- Some pasta shapes cooked faster than the others which led to uneven bites.
