This Rotary Fruit & Vegetable Peeler Pleasantly Surprised Us

Quirky-looking kitchen tools and appliances are good at just that- attractive. But when it comes to functionality, more often than not, they leave us disappointed.

Lucky for us (and you, too), our 2023 started off with some commendable kitchen appliances. Enhancing that list, here is our plastic fruit and vegetable peeler review that left us impressed.

What were we looking for when reviewing this fruit peeler?

The functionality, performance, versatility, construction, design, and overall quality were the parameters we set for our review. 

1. Performance

We answered questions like:

• How well does it perform?
• It is convenient or does it add to the number of tasks to be performed?
• Does it rotate smoothly or does it require efforts?
• What about the sharpness of the blades?
• Are the blades sturdy enough for julienning veggies?

2. Design

• Is this a bulky tool or a compact one?
• Is it easy to grip?
• Is this suited for carrots and veggies shaped similarly? What about beetroot, and other similarly shaped vegetables?
• How are the blades changed?
• Are they detachable or simply ‘twist to change’?

3. Innovation

How unique is this tool? Did its mechanism wow us? Or it is two products infused as one?

4. Other Parameters

The ease of cleaning and maintenance, price, packaging, overall quality, and convenience were also considered while arriving at a conclusion.

Price + Packaging

Although there is not MRP mentioned on the box, we bought this peeler for Rs 199/- from Amazon. It is packed in a black carton. The peeler and its packaging, are both, fairly lightweight. 

Material + Construction

All the three blades are made of stainless steel. The rest of the body and handle are made of plastic. The sides and handle are bright green in color. 

This works on a twisting motion. The handle needs to be rotated to change the blade style. The blades are not detachable, they can be changed by rotating the handle. 

Our Experience

This peeler is equipped with three blades, each meant to serve a unique purpose. One is for peeling, the other is for softer skin, and the third is for julienne cuts or thin strips. 

The twist motion worked fairly smoothly. This is quite comfortable to hold, and doesn’t feel unnatural. The blades are sharp and work well, as they were intended to. The peeling motion is smooth and efficient.

The small round protuding element is meant to remove potato eyes and ours did a decent job, but it’s not too efficient. Would recommend a regular knife for that.

Even the cleaning process is hassle-free. We did not open the peeler, and ran it under tap water and rotated the blades two-three times. This ensured that none of the veggie peels remain in the peeler causing it to rust faster. Make sure you dry it well before storing it away.
