Our Review Factors
How did we review Chedda’s Long Masala Banana Chips? What were we looking for? Taste and texture were the primary parameters for this review.
1. Taste
These are labeled ‘masala’ chips. How bold was the masala? Were the components balanced? What about the natural sweetness and starchy flavor of bananas? Could that be tasted through the seasoning?
Overall, was this fresh-tasting or were there artificial/industrial aftertastes?
2. Texture
Chips must be light and crisp- this is an unsaid fact. How did Chedda’s Long Masala Banana Chips perform here?
Were the chips too oily, did they leave a greasy sheen on our fingers?
3. Other Parameters
Under this parameter, we recorded all information on the pack like price, net weight, ingredients, shelf life.
Chheda’s Banana Chips – Detailed Review
Price + Packaging
These chips come in a purple pack that has bold graphics of the contents inside. One pack holds 170 grams and is priced at Rs 85/-. These have a shelf life of five months.
Main Ingredients
The chips are made using Banana (65%), Palm Oil (32%), Red chilli powder (0.8%), Salt (0.8 %) , Ground Spices (0.6%), Dry mango Powder (0.4%), Black Salt (0.4%)
Aroma + Appearance
Unlike regular banana chips we commonly find in the market, these chips are made using bananas cut lengthwise, hence the ‘long’ in the product name. Majorly, most chips were long, a few were broken.
They had an orange hue with red specs of the seasoning. The aroma was dominated by raw mango powder and black salt, and these were devoid of the rancid oil smell.
Taste + Texture
These were not paper thin, these chips had decent thickness. The crunch was bold. Fortunately, these were devoid of any greasy mouthfeel or touch.
In terms of taste, the chips struck a pleasing balance between salt and spices. The appearance shows these are loaded with the masala seasoning, but they are not heavy on spice, the spice is well-rounded. That said, the innate starchy taste of bananas could be tasted, but it did not have a major impact.
Pros
- Fresh and crisp
- Balanced seasoning
- Deliver on the ‘long’ ‘masala’ claims
- Pretty clean ingredient list
Best Suited For
Road trips or as a side dish with dal rice, these chips are sure to hit the spot.
