Our Detailed Analysis
Looking at the above table, these instant millet noodles by Slurrp Farm are lower in calories, have a significantly lower fat content, and a better protein and fiber content.
How does millets affect blood sugar?
Millet is a group of small-seeded grains resembling tiny pearls. These are whole grains which are also gluten-free.
The GI values of all millets are not the same! While Foxtail, Little, Finger & Pearl millets have a GI value ranging from 54 to 68 (low GI), Jowar millet, however, has a GI value of 70.
The glycemic index is a measure of how fast carbohydrates have the tendency to increase blood sugar levels. Our body has the tendency to digest and absorb foods with a lower GI value more slowly which eventually raises blood sugar more slowly after consumption. On the contrary, foods containing a higher GI value will digest faster and lead to a quick increase in blood sugar levels.
Furthermore, millets are high in dietary fiber, which also has a significant impact on blood sugar regulation. Why so? Fiber is said to slow down the digestion of carbohydrates which prevents rapid blood sugar spikes.
Taste + Texture
We cooked the noodles as per the instructions on the pack. It took around 7 to 8 minutes for the noodles to cook to perfection.
To prevent the clumping of the masala, we recommend adding the masala to the water and then mixing it. Why, you ask? In our first attempt we made the noodles as per the package instructions. However, this resulted in clumping which led to an uneven distribution of flavor and the final result did not turn out to be that masaledaar.
For a consistent and more masaledaar experience, we recommend adding the masala to the water after it boils, followed by the noodles.
Initially , these noodles showcase a light brown color however on cooking they take on a light yellow color. Taste-wise, these noodles have an innate earthy flavor which is a characteristic trait of millets. The flavor of the tastemaker is balanced and delivers a taste experience that feels familiar to the masala flavor that we usually know and love.
The overall bite of these noodles is desirable too! These noodles have a grainy texture and deliver a firm bite.
Pros
- Nutritionally better compared to maida noodles
- Delectable earthy flavor
- These are not deep-fried
- The seasoning has a nice taste
- Made using whole wheat and jowar flour
