Samosas are an emotion. A comfort snack we often choose over fancy cookies and buns. These might look rather simple to perfect, but there’s a lot that goes in the making. From a well-kneaded dough to a flavor-loaded stuffing, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea (though these taste the best with tea).
To answer untimely cravings, we were adamant on finding frozen samosas that taste right. We picked four popular and easily available brands for our frozen samosa review – ITC, Haldiram’s, Samossay and Prasuma. After two rounds of tasting we chose Haldiram’s as our Top Pick. We Also Recommend Prasuma. Here’s why!

Our Review Factors
What are we expecting? What defines the best frozen aloo samosa? We were looking for a CRISP samosa pastry with a delicious aloo-based stuffing. The casing-filling ratio should be in sync with each other.
This section covers the review factors for the best aloo samosa frozen :
1. Taste
The taste of the stuffing is essential in determining the overall flavor of a samosa. Every spice and its intensity has been meticulously recorded. Is the stuffing well seasoned? How spicy is the filling? Does it showcase traditional Indian flavors or does it have a modern twist?
Furthermore, we also gauged the overall flavor (pastry + stuffing). Many of these frozen aloo samosas come with chutney packs. How tasty is the chutney? Does it complement the taste of the samosa?
2. Texture
The texture focuses on the following elements – the crispiness of the samosa shell (pastry), how well cooked is the aloo stuffing and the samosa casing to the stuffing ratio. How is the overall bite of the samosas? Does it feel chalky?
Do the peas, raisins, and peanuts, in addition to aloo, have apt textures?
3. Other Supporting Parameters
Convenience
From frying to serving, how did we rate these frozen samosas on convenience? Do these samosas include chutneys? A ready to use pack of chutney will save your time and eliminate the need to make chutney at home or buy some separately.
Price
For each contender, we noted the number of pieces and individually calculated the price per piece of the samosa. Considering the price of the samosa we get at farsaan walas, does it prove to be value for money?
The Qualifier
How did we select the contenders for our frozen aloo samosa review?
We chose contenders offering frozen samosas with an Indian-style aloo stuffing for our review process. Frozen samosas with a veggie or cheese filling were not part of the review. Given this, Goeld and McCain were excluded from the review because their frozen samosas had veggies, pizza, or corn-cheese stuffing.
When choosing brands for the review, the size of the samosa was not a deciding factor.
Best Frozen Samosa – Review Process
Our review process for the best frozen samosa was a simple one. We followed the below mentioned steps to arrive at a fair conclusion :
- For deep-frying, we ensured that the temperature of oil was the same for all the contenders.
- We fried the samosas on low to medium heat.
- The samosas were deep-fried till the exterior turned golden brown.

Our Experience
These samosas have lovely desi flavors. It is very fresh tasting and has no lingering industrial aftertaste. It is generously stuffed with peas and aloo. At no point, did we feel any empty pockets. The filling is precisely seasoned and is not too spicy making them apt for a larger number of audience. It does not feel chalky at any time and has a halwai-style touch to it.
Talking about the texture, the crispiness of the outer casing was something we truly loved. The crunch is perfect, and it doesn’t feel doughy at all. Furthermore, it did not absorb excess oil during frying. In terms of the flavors, the chutneys made a mark and tasted fresh.

3. ITC Master Chef Punjabi Samosa
Our Experience
These samosas have a typical desi flavor coming through the saunf and other masalas. The outer cover was slightly thicker as compared to normal dough.
Additionally, there are no chutneys that come with this, so you can pair this with your homemade chutney.
When we reviewed ITC Masterchef Samosa as a standalone product, the overall bite of these samosas was excellent. It had a crisp and flaky outer casing.
However, in our comparative analysis, these samosas missed the ideal texture quality we were hoping for. Haldiram’s Punjabi Samosa was noticeably better and thus scored higher in terms of flavor and texture.
