Summary

We had a truly wonderful experience with the Cadbury Dairy Milk Madbury chocolates. This is an interesting play on flavors and textures that offer an exciting change from a plain chocolate bar.

It’s known for its sweetness but some love it bitter- can you guess what it is? Chocolate!

Milk, white, dark, vegan, nutty aren’t the only types of chocolate bars offered today. Cadbury is one of the first names that pops into mind when we hear ‘chocolate’ From caramel-flavored to filled with Oreos, and everything in between, Cadbury Dairy Milk has never fallen short of innovation when it comes to taking its consumers by surprise.

In 2019, under the Madbury initiative, the brand gave consumers a chance to suggest ingredients for uniquely flavored chocolate bars using the brand’s milk chocolate as the base and adding up to two flavoring ingredients.

In 2020, Susan from Mangaluru and Sakshi from Lucknow won the contest. We tasted these Gulab ae Khaas and Chilli Orange flavored chocolate bars for our Cadbury Dairy Milk Madbury chocolate bars review.

Dairy Milk Madbury Chocolate Bars – Our Review Factors

Interesting ingredients have been used in these innovative chocolate bars. Do they complement each other?

1. Flavor

Each Madbury variant combines two additional flavors/ingredients. What proportion of chocolate to flavoring ingredients has been used? Could we still taste the milk chocolate or did the additions have a stronger presence? Do the flavor of rose and chilli-orange pair well with the chocolate? If yes, how prominent is their presence? Does the chocolate retain its milky taste? Do the nuts/fruit peels taste industrial? Overall, are these chocolate bars ideal for that post-meal dessert?

2. Price

We compared some of the most popular brands of flavored chocolate bars available in the Indian market. To our surprise, Cadbury Dairy Milk Madbury chocolates are priced very economically.

1. Gulaab e Khaas

Rose petals, rose essence are widely used in Indian kitchens, especially in dessert preparations. It adds a floral taste and aroma that uplifts the entire dish when used in correct proportions.

Dried rose petals are also used to add some texture along with almonds. Madbury Gulaab ae Khaas has a milk chocolate base that is flavored with rose and has 10% almonds. We had nothing but high hopes from this one and it fully delivered on all promises!

An observation we made before the taste test- all almond bits have settled at the base, they aren’t evenly distributed. However, every single bite has a nutty crunch, so no complaints.

2. Chilli Orange

There’s one version of a sweet-salty, super indulgent snack all across the globe. From the classic PB and J sandwich to chicken and waffles, pairing sweet and salty is a basic practice followed in the culinary world. Just a tiny pinch of salt enhances the sweetness.

But sweet and SPICY? We were super intrigued to taste citrus-flavored spicy milk chocolate.

After the taste test and some surprised reactions, there’s one thing we can collectively agree on- you need a higher-than-average spice tolerance to enjoy this ‘chocolate’. The chilli kick comes in a bit later, but for people who like to try out innovative flavors would like this.

Chilli Orange is something only those with a good enough spice tolerance would like.

Final Words

Innovative, interesting, and definitely very unusual flavors for a milk chocolate bar, Cadbury Dairy Milk Madbury chocolates were pleasantly yum!
