Quick Review Of Haldiram’s Multigrain Dosa Instant Mix
Here’s our comprehensive review of the multigrain dosa mix by Haldiram. We tasted and reviewed this product on multiple parameters to come up with the answer if it’s worth buying.
1. Price
A pack of 200 grams is priced at Rs 55/-. A single pack makes about 10-12 dosas depending on the thickness and size of the dosa you prepare.
For a smaller family, if the product is leftover after one use, the balance can be stored by transferring the leftover mix in an airtight container. Make sure you always use a dry spoon to transfer the dosa mix.
2. Packaging
The Haldiram’s Multigrain Dosa Instant Mix comes in a non-resealable red and green pouch packaging.
3. Nutri Label
The pack mentions the calories per serving. A single serving, as mentioned, is 40 grams approx. The calories provided by this dosa mix per serving are 140 KCals.
4. Dry inspection
The instant dosa mix is a light, earthy brown. We got a very delicate aroma of fenugreek and other multigrain flours. The texture of the instant mix is not very fine; it is coarser than usual.
5. How to make it
As per the instructions given on the pack –
For the mix:
Mix 200 gms of the dosa mix with 100 ml of curd and 300 ml of water. Stir into a smooth batter. Rest the batter for 5 minutes.
For making the dosas:
Grease a flat, non-stick tawa or dosa tawa with oil and heat on medium flame. Pour batter in the center of the hot tawa, and spread in an outward circular motion to get a thin dosa. Add 1 Tbsp oil to the edges of the dosa. Cook till golden brown.
For serving:
Remove from tawa and serve hot with coconut chutney or sambhar.
6. How we made it
We followed Haliram’s multigrain dosa instant mix recipe to the T. We used a glass bowl to mix the ingredients and for making the instant dosa. We used a non-stick tawa to make the dosas. We used packaged curd, which is usually much thicker than our homemade dahi. We suggest you do the same, or else the consistency of the batter could become thin and runny.
We greased the tawa with refined oil using a silicone brush. Once we poured a ladle full of batter on the tawa, we spread it evenly in a circular motion. While the dosa was being prepared, we covered it with a lid for quick cooking of multigrain dosa. The cooking process was carried on a low-medium flame so that the instant dosa is cooked to perfection.
7. Taste Test
The taste of multigrain dosas depends on the type of grains that have gone in the making of the dosa mix. This multigrain dosa has rice, corn, ragi, barley, and oats. So, texture-wise, dosas made using Haldiram’s Multigrain Dosa mix have that complex, fibrous nature. The dosas we made were very fluffy and soft when we kept the batter thicker, but as we spread them out more, they became crisper.
Taste-wise, this was close to the conventional, homemade multigrain dosa taste. The quantity of salt and seasoning levels were well balanced. We tasted it with an instant sambhar, and the taste was quite fulfilling.
