Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolates – Our Review Factors

When you hear the words ‘exotic chocolate’, the expectations are quite high. What makes a chocolate premium in the real sense is the quality of ingredients used.

Since these Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolates have a fruit-based centre filling, the freshness and quality of the fruit used was significant too.

In Team Mishry’s Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolate review we decode these center-filled chocolates in detail. Does the aroma transport us to HersheyLand? Is the chocolate to filling proportion adequate? What about the packaging? Does that look exotic too? Let’s find out!

1. Taste

Dark chocolate is an exquisite taste in itself. The chocolatey decadence, smooth texture, and the mild bitterness that lingers on the tongue- these need to be spot-on!

Fruits and berries add a chewy texture, all the while bringing some natural tanginess and sweetness. The fresher the fruit used, the better the taste.

2. Texture & Colour

Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolates have a glossy look. Adding to the premium feel, these chocolate balls resemble the color of a dark chocolate bar.

The outer layer is a firm coating of chocolate. The softness and chewiness increase layer-by-layer. The following layer of chocolate is relatively softer and ends with a chewy bite of fruit.

3. Consistency

The consistency of good quality chocolate boils down to two significant factors. One- the quality of ingredients that go in the making, two- the production process.

Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolate uses cocoa that has been roasted and crushed without additional ingredients like sugar or milk. Similarly, the ‘premium’ claim of high-quality chocolates is visible through the shiny and smooth brown look.

Additionally, such chocolates would seamlessly melt on the tongue like butter!

4. Balanced Flavour

When we see chocolate with center filling, we’d want a delicious balance of both. In our Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolate review, we peeped inside these chocolate balls to check the filling.

Has Hershey’s nailed the chocolate to filling ratio?

5. Price

A 100-gram pack of Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolates (all three variants) is priced at INR 150/-.

#1 Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolate Pomegranate

Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolate with the pomegranate centre filling contains 9.9% filling which is a combination of papaya and pomegranate. There is a mild bitterness that comes from the dark chocolate coating.

The dark chocolate flavor blends well with the sweet and tangy flavors from the filling. That being said, we could not prominently make out the pomegranate. The filling had vibrant pink-red shades.

Overall, the varying textures of chocolate combined with the chewy filling works wonders on the palate.

If you find yourself typically craving something sweet after your meals, this bite-sized center-filled chocolate makes portion control easier.

#2 Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolate Blueberry & Acai

With 10.1% fruit filling in the center, Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolate in the blueberry and acai variant struck a great balance between flavors. We observed a mild bitterness from the dark chocolates and the berries contributed with their sweet and tart flavor notes. Great taste is all we will say!

The filling had blue-indigo tones. This does justice to the exotic tag used by Hershey’s.

#3 Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolate Raspberry & Goji

To put it in one word- sweet! Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolate, the raspberry, and goji variant were the sweetest of the three. We think this would be due to the natural taste of the berries used.  The bitter taste of the dark chocolate was extremely subtle. Overall, this variant had dominant sweet flavor notes followed by a mild tartness and an even mild bitter taste.

The center of these dark brown chocolate balls had a maroon-pink filling.

Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolates – Which Variant Stands Out?

Choosing our favorite from Hershey’s Exotic Dark Chocolate review was hands-down among the most challenging ones. We found ourselves in a fix between the blueberry-acai and raspberry-goji variants.

After mindfully relishing a few more pieces of these two variants (yes, we finished the packs) our Top Pick was the blueberry-acai variant from this Hershey’s range. The blueberry and acai flavors could be tasted well and the overall flavor too was well balanced.

Bitter? Sweet? Tart? They were all there and in proportion.
