Do we like it? Would we recommend these achaari beetroot kebabs to our readers? Following are some other parameters that helped us form the ITC Beetroot Kebab review.
1. Ingredients
The masala has the classic flavors you would expect from an achaar. The primary ingredients we tasted were fennel, asafoetida, coriander, and fenugreek. Yum!
As mentioned on the back of the pack, the ingredients used for making the kebabs were green peas, green banana and beetroot, dehydrated potato, seasonings, mixed spices, coriander, onion, red chili, garlic, black pepper, fennel, cumin, turmeric, fenugreek, iodized salt, milk solids, coriander, lemon juice concentrate, and degermed cornflour.
2. Flavour
The ITC Beetroot Kebabs are spicy! The heat is majorly derived from black pepper and red chillies. In addition to this, we could also taste some tangy flavors from the achaari masala.
As the name suggests- these beetroot kebabs have a very mild sweetness to them. This sweetness tastes a lot like the natural sweetness from beetroots.
All in all, the strong spiciness, the punch of tangy flavors, and mild sweetness- these flavors put together with the texture of the ITC Beetroot Kebabs make a very refreshing starter option for vegetarians.
3. Price
The 210-gram pack of the ITC Achaari Beetroot Kebab is priced at Rs 130/-
You get approximately 15 pieces of the achaari beetroot kebab in a pack. In our opinion, this product is priced decently, especially when we consider the fact how these kebabs are devoid of preservatives.
4. Method of Preparation
The pack mentions three possible methods of preparation. You can cook these achaari beetroot kebabs on a tawa, bake them, or even air fry them.
The recommended method of cooking as per the pack is to cook these on a tawa. And that is what we did.
We shallow-fried the ITC Beetroot Kebabs on a non-stick pan with some refined oil. These kebabs were browned well in under five minutes.
Here are some points you must note:
- The ITC Achaari Beetroot Kebabs soak up some of the oil.
- These kebabs are very soft and fragile. You must carefully place and flip them on the tawa/air fryer.
5. Texture & Colour
Right out of the pack, the ITC Beetroot Kebabs had a light pink color with some hints of brown. Post-cooking, the kebabs became darker overall.
As we were placing the kebabs on the tawa, we noticed how easily breakable they were.
Low-medium flame and utmost care while flipping these achaari beetroot kebabs ensured none of them broke or deformed before the taste test.
Once cooked, these kebabs were, in a word, lip-smacking!
The ITC Beetroot Kebabs have a melt-in-the-mouth feel to them. We think this smooth paste-like texture comes from the green bananas that have been used.
6. Best Pair
Since these achaari beetroot kebabs have a little bit of everything- spicy, tangy, and sweet flavors, we think they would pair well with a variety of dips/side dishes.
Tamarind chutney, pudina chutney, or even as a starter served with cocktails- these kebabs have a refreshing taste.
7. Packaging
The ITC Beetroot Kebabs are neatly packed in a tray with compartments. This not only makes it a visually appealing product but also prevents the pieces from breaking or sticking to one another, and hence easy to make and serve.
The outer packing in the standard green and black one.
