Top 3 Features To Look For In A Lemon Squeezer
1. Material: Stainless Steel Is Best
The best kind of lemon squeezers is made of stainless steel. Not aluminum or wood. Stainless steel is an alloy of steel (a form of steel) which is resistant to rust. This means that when lemon juice comes into contact with stainless steel, it would lead to no corrosion or leaching of the metal. A lemon squeezer made from stainless steel is the healthiest one for you.
2. Depth: A Deeper Bowl Squeezes Best
Make sure you pick a lemon squeezer with a ‘deep bowl’. A deep bowl will ensure that no matter what the size of the lemon, small or big, you would be able to juice it in the quickest time.
3. Design And Style
The squeezer must have a handle, i.e. a covering of rubber, or plastic. This makes sure the tool is easy and comfortable to handle. You want the lemon squeezer to have blunt edges, and not rough, jagged edges. Also, the lemon squeezer should be sturdy and heavy duty.

Our Review Process
Typically lemon squeezers last for years. This is not a product that is changed very often. However, it’s also something that is used in Indian kitchens extensively, and not just during summer months. So what you bring in must be deserving of all the time and attention you will shower it with!
How We Tested
We reviewed a variety of different lemon squeezers to arrive at the best set of features needed in a long-lasting tool such as this.
We reviewed 3 types of squeezers for this purpose:
1. Aluminium Squeezer
This was the heaviest and had a good sized bowl too. The additional weight does help to extract maximum juice. However, there is ample research that has been done around the effects of lemon or fruit juices coming in contact with aluminum. Hence, we don’t recommend an aluminum lemon squeezer.
2. All Stainless Steel
We picked this for the review for its lightweight. However, upon multiple trails, we noticed that a lack of handle makes it uncomfortable in the hands. The brand we picked up also had a very shallow bowl, leading to multiple attempts to draw out lemon juice completely. Look out for sharp, rough edges in the handles, especially if you are going for a low-end product.
3. Our thirds model was made of stainless steel, with a black rubber covering
This was very comfortable to handle and weighed just enough so you wouldn’t have to effort too much to squeeze the juice out. Sadly, this too had a shallow bowl.
After using different kinds of lemon squeezers extensively, we came to the conclusion that the type of material (for health and hygiene reasons) and depth of the bowl are the two most important features that must be kept in mind before buying one for your kitchen.
How Do These Factors Matter?
1. Material
Research has shown that aluminum can leach unhealthy amounts of the metal into the liquid it comes into contact with, more so with acidic liquids such as lemon juice. Stainless Steel, on the other hand, doesn’t leach chemicals into the lemon juice and is safe to use.
Wooden lemon squeezers aren’t easy to clean, absorb liquids and the polished surface means that there is some chemical layered on to the surface already, and hence we don’t recommend lemon squeezers made of wood.
2. Depth of the bowl
Ever noticed how you have to keep taking the lemon pieces out of the squeezer and placing them in different ways/angles to keep squeezing the last drop of juice? That happens when the bowl (or bucket, cup) is a shallow one. This way, you end up reaching the maximum squeeze limit easily, even when there is more juice left. A deep bowl ensures that you are able to squeeze in one go.
3. Rough Edges
Poor quality squeezers can have rough, raw or sometimes even sharp edges. Not only does this feel uncomfortable to the hands, but it also increases the risk of rusting later. For cleaning purposes, you could also check if the two ends open out completely. This would make cleaning the hinges easier.
Conclusion
