Our Review Factors
Our Expectations: Saunth ki chutney contains sweet, tangy, and savory flavors as well as a hint of heat from the spices employed. This chutney should be thick and have a well-balanced flavor profile.
The following is a list of the review criteria we used to rate Mother’s Recipe Delhi Chaat Chutney:
1. Taste
A traditional saunth ki chutney combines the flavors of sweet, sour, salty, and savory with a touch of spice. We anticipate a sweet chutney with a slight tang. The chutney must also be adequately seasoned with salt and a peppery kick. Does it showcase the flavors of dry ginger powder and cumin?
2. Consistency
The consistency of the chutney impacts the overall experience of consuming chaat. If it’s too thick, then drizzling it over chaat is a hassle and if it’s too thin you cannot relish it with a batch of samosas maybe. The consistency should be neither too thick or thin.
3. Other Observations
The other non-tasting aspects we considered during our assessment included price, packaging, shelf life, and appearance.

Mother’s Recipe Delhi Chaat Chutney – Detailed Review
Price + Packaging
This Delhi chaat chutney comes in pichkoo packaging. A nozzle at the top makes it simple and mess-free to dispense the chutney. A 200 gm pack costs INR 57. It has a 12-month shelf life.
Main Ingredients
A quick look at the ingredients used here: Water, Sugar, Tamarind, Jaggery, Dates, Iodised salt, Dry ginger powder, Red chili powder, Dry mango powder, Mixed spices, Acidity regulators (INS 260 and INS 330), Stabilizer (INS 415) and Preservative (INS 211).
How We Reviewed It?
We tested the saunth chutney twice in different forms for a better evaluation of the taste and consistency:
- Alongside dal vadas as a dip.
- We also used it as a chutney to top dahi bhallas cooked using Gits Quick Dahi Vada Mix.
Appearance
It appears to be dark brown chutney and we could see a few red chili specs. We could also spot roasted cumin (which haven’t been mentioned on the pack separately).
Aroma
The predominant aroma is that of roasted cumin. Also, it has a distinctive aroma of tamarind and sugar.
Consistency
The consistency of homemade saunth ki chutney is usually thick. This Mother’s Recipe chutney is flowy, making it the ideal topping for golgappas, chaats, or dahi bhallas. For someone wanting to use it as a dip for samosas and pakodas, the consistency might not work.
Taste
Flavor-wise, we got notes of cumin, tamarind, and sugar with hints of dry ginger. The chutney is perfectly salted. There are no complaints!
The red chilies, dry ginger powder, and pepper (which isn’t specified, but we could taste it) give the chutney a lovely jolt of heat. This combination of the spiciness from the pepper, tamarind, sugar, and saunth powder gives the chutney a well-rounded flavor.
Pros
- Perfectly salted chutney.
- Easy to use pichkoo packaging.
- Enticing aroma of roasted cumin.
- Loved the touch of heat coming in from the pepper, red chillies and dry ginger powder.
Cons
- We felt the consistency of the chutney was too flowy.
