SUPERB!
Summary
Nutrabay Gold Vital Whey Protein is a good pick for supplementing your daily protein requirement. The consistency and flavor were quite good.
Looking for a complete protein source? A chocolatey flavor? The convenience of consumption? If you answered yes, this review is for you.
Protein is an essential macronutrient for all of us, whether we hit the gym or not. When it comes to vegetarians and vegans, the sources of lean protein are comparatively less. This is where supplements come to the rescue. Earlier this year, we reviewed and were delighted by two variants of plant protein by Nutrabay.
But what about their Whey protein? Is it equally acceptable?

Nutrabay Gold Vital Whey Protein – The What, Why, and How
What is whey protein?
Milk contains two proteins- whey and casein. During the cheese-making process, whey can be separated from casein. This separated liquid is then pasteurized and dried, and made available to us in the form of protein powder.
What does bioavailability indicate?
‘Quality over quantity’ best describes bioavailability.
Bioavailability signifies the body’s ability to absorb and utilize the protein it has been fed.
Whey protein is considered a complete protein source as it contains all nine essential amino acids and has a high absorption rate. On average, the bioavailability of whey ranges between 70-95%. It means that 100 grams of whey protein concentrate will provide a minimum of 70 grams of protein.
Do whey concentrate and isolate use different protein sources?
No, whey concentrate and isolate both use milk as the key protein source.
Whey isolate undergoes more processing, has a higher protein content, lower carbohydrates, and fats, and has little to no lactose. However, whey concentrate is less expensive than whey isolate, for obvious reasons.
What are the key differences between plant protein and whey protein?
Whey protein is a premium quality protein derived from cow’s milk. It contains lactose.
Plant protein, on the other hand, can be prepared from various sources like brown rice, soy, pea, etc. These are vegan-friendly and also lactose-free.
Nutrabay Gold Vital Whey Protein – Detailed Review
Our Experience
As suggested, we added one scoop (50 grams) of Nutrabay Gold Vital Whey Protein to a blender jar with 250 ml of water. Alternatively, you can add milk.
In less than 15 seconds, this was blitz to perfection, we achieved an even, lump-free consistency. It didn’t feel gritty or grainy on the palette, we liked the smooth consistency.
Taste-wise, the flavor of the chocolate was mild but unmissable. The sweetness was not overwhelming but the synthetic flavor of artificial sweetener could be tasted toward the end of the sip. That said, this wasn’t really a deal breaker as most chocolate-flavored whey proteins have this aftertaste.
Main Ingredients
Milk solids (skimmed milk powder, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate (80%)), cocoa powder, enzyme blend, nature-identical chocolate flavoring substances, vitamins and minerals, thickening agent (INS 415, E 407), and sweetener (INS 955) are the ingredients used.
INS 955 aka sucralose. This is an artificial sweetener that is not broken down by the body, thus making it non-caloric.
INS 415 and E 407 are called xanthan gum and carrageenan. Thickeners are used to enhance the viscocity without substantially altering the nutritional properties.
The nutrition values are as follows
Per 50 grams (one serving/ one heaping scoop) this offers 187.05 Kcal, 20 grams of protein, 24.69 grams of carbohydrate, and 0.92 grams of fat. This serving also provides 3.59 grams of essential amino acids.
When compared with other popular/trusted brands of whey protein, we found that Nutrabay Gold Vital Whey Protein is marginally higher on calories, slightly low on the protein content, but significantly more carbohydrate-dense. In essence, this is two products offered as one- a whey protein and a mass gainer.
