Our Review Factors
What were we looking for when reviewing Organic India Ayush Kwath?
A warming, inviting aroma, refreshing, soothing sips, the packaging and overall convenience were the key parameters we set for this review.
1. Taste
Does this caffeine-free beverage taste fresh? As it contains no sweetening ingredients, does it require one? How is the overall blend of flavors? A combination of all or dominant on one?
2. Aroma
From the brew bag to the cup, how does the aroma vary in intensity? Do the ingredients make their presence prominent? Were our olfactory receptors tickling a sniff later?
3. Packaging
When it comes to tea bags that must be brewed in water before consumption, we look for staple-free and waste-free bags. Does Organic India check these boxes? Paper, plastic, cloth – what are the materials used for packaging?
4. Other Parameters
The price, ingredients, convenience, ease of use, and other non-tasting factors were considered here.
Organic India Ayush Kwath – Detailed Review
Price + Packaging
One carton, holding 25 bags, is priced at Rs 184/-. Each bag has 2 grams of content and is packed individually, without any staple pins.
Full marks on packaging, as staple-free tea bags are better comparatively.
Did you know? FSSAI put a ban on use of staple pins, especially for tea bags since 2019. This was because, when tea bags are immersed in water, they expand making the pin loose. This loosening of the staple pin increases the chances of the pin being ingested by the consumer, thus putting them at a potential risk.
Main Ingredients
This is a caffeine-free beverage that is prepared with only four ingredients and is devoid of additives. This uses tulsi, cinnamon, ginger, and pepper.
Why does Organic India Ayush Kwath call itself an ‘immunity booster’?
Let’s take a look at the ingredients that go in the making. There’s tulsi, cinnamon, ginger, and pepper. We were quite impressed by this additive and preservative-free ingredient list.
Tulsi is a natural source of vitamin C and zinc which have anti-viral properties to keep infections at bay.
Be it brain health or dental, digestion or inflammation, cinnamon is an all-round, bacteria-fighting ingredient that helps fight viruses and infections.
Ginger, the ultimate antispamodic, has over 60 trace minerals, 30 amino acids, and 500 enzymes that work together to calm reactivity, hence, boosting immunity.
Pepper helps boost white blood cells which in turn leads to fighting off bacteria and viruses.
While the benefits of these components sound VERY impressive, true immunity is built only with a holistic approach. A nutritious eating pattern, active lifestyle, efficient rest and recovery ,are a few ways to enhance immunity.
How we made this beverage?
Since there were no instructions mentioned regarding the quantity of water to be added, we poured 200 ml of freshly boiled water for one infusion bag. We let the bag infuse for five minutes before tasting.
A natural sweetener like honey can be added, if desired. But we skipped this step to gauge the flavors as they are originally.
Taste + Aroma
Warm and naturally sweet, there was a bold aroma of cinnamon. Primarily, this was the only ingredient we could identify without tasting.
After the 5-minute infusion, we tasted the tea which felt like nothing but a warm, comforting hug from a mug. Tulsi brings its mild astringent flavors, that were noticeable first and foremost. We could taste the natural warming sweetness of cinnamon, followed by a super mild peppery kick at the end of the sip.
Though the ingredient list mentions ginger, we couldn’t really taste it. That said, it wasn’t missed, and this was a soothing beverage sans the spice.
Pros
- Staple-free packing
- Clean ingredient list
- Fresh flavors
- Soothing aroma
