Summary

Pigeon by Stovekraft kitchen knife set was a major disappointment. Only one out of the six pieces does a decent job. The rest let us down.

Whether you’re roughly chopping veggies or deboning a chicken, knife sets are one of those kitchen essentials that are significant to home cooks and professional chefs alike. An invaluable tool, an investment, knife sets are a kitchen staple that should last years if properly cleaned and maintained. Not only do knife sets effortlessly turn into attractive decor, but they also eliminate the need for individually picking and choosing blades.

Blade sharpness, blade size, material, quality of handles, knife maintenance requirements are key factors when it comes to making this investment.

Among the several knife sets offered in the market, we decided to test one of the most popular brands, Pigeon. Our Pigeon by Stovekraft Kitchen Knife Set review is based on over four weeks of recurrent use. Tetra packs, pouches, zip locks, fresh produce, we tried them all! Is this all talk no show? Let’s find out.

Pigeon By Stovekraft Kitchen Knife Set – Detailed Review

Everything you need to know, from raw materials used to the ingredients we chopped using this knife set, is discussed in this section.

Pigeon by Stovekraft Kitchen Knife set is meant to be a one-stop shop for all your manual cutting/chopping needs. Need to open a pack of milk? You have the scissors. Something to peel potatoes and apples? You have the paring knife. And to keep all these in a place- the wooden stand.

In terms of design, this knife set lends a symmetric look to the kitchen space. All knife handles are black with three rivets on each side. These show a classic black and silver combination which is fit to suit most traditional and modern kitchens. The pair of scissors have one serrated blade and one straight-edged. All the five cutting tools have the brand logo on them.

The wooden stand has four slots for the knives and one for the scissor. The color and look of wood add a unique charm, however, the stand does only half of what it’s supposed to. The stand is lightweight but wobbly. The base isn’t sturdy.

Scissors- The scissors come with two blades- one smooth and the other serrated. They offer a decent grip and come with a plastic cover to prevent mishaps. Typically, in a kitchen space, scissors are used for opening packs, pouches, cutting chilies/herbs, etc. We had to keep going back to our regular pair of scissors as the blades on Pigeon’s scissors were semi-functional. While it does not assist in cutting open pouches and packs, herbs can be chopped using these scissors.

Paring Knife- This is a small-sized all-purpose knife with a smooth-edged blade. Ideally recommended for peeling or intricate cutting (fancy salads), this was probably the saving grace of this knife set. This easy-gripping knife has a sharp blade that did the job well!

Steak Knife- As the name suggests, this knife is recommended for slicing steak. Such long-bladed knives are ideal for slicing bread and vegetables like onions, bell peppers, etc. We used this to deseed a capsicum. Like other tools in this set, the steak knife too had a nice grip. However, the performance of the blade was quite average. A regular knife would deseed just the same.

Utility Knife- Daily use, quick chopping, to serve multiple purposes, that’s a utility knife. To test this knife, we grabbed a bunch of tomatoes, onions, and capsicum, and tried chopping them. The process definitely took a little longer, but the end result was well-chopped veggies. The blade wasn’t as sharp as we’d prefer which slows down the process.

Boning Knife- A boning knife is used for boning/descaling chicken, meat, and fish. We did not test this on the above-mentioned, instead, we tried chopping some vegetables with this, and safe to say, this was not as disappointing as the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some interesting FAQs on Pigeon by Stovekraft Stainless Steel Kitchen Knives set.

1. Is the Knife set Dishwasher safe?

The brand has recommended manually washing the knives and scissors. Plus, since the dishwasher detergent is abrasive, it may do your knives more harm than good.

2. Is the quality of the Knife set good?

Sadly, no. This knife set was a disappointment.

3. Is the wooden stand of the Knife set sturdy?

No, the wooden stand is wobbly. The scissor slot must be cleaned carefully as it is textured.

4. Is the warranty period mentioned in the product authentic?

Yes, there is a one-year warranty.

5. Is a Pigeon Kitchen Knife Set worth its price?

No, only one knife does its job well. The rest are not sharp and the stand is wobbly.

Final Words

Would we recommend this to our readers? To blatantly put it, no. This knife set has six pieces, out of which only one functions well. That said, all knives and scissors have a good grip but the blades are quite average. Knives with sharper blades make the job easier as they peel, cut, chop, dice faster.

The stand can be used as a decor item. As a stand, it fails to do the job as it needs to be stacked against the wall. The base isn’t stable. Additionally, to take the knives/scissors off the stand, we require both hands- one to take it out, one to hold the stand.
