Mishry Rating on Pigeon Electric Kettle
Summary
While the electric kettle has some very easy to use features, the stainless steel body gets heated up while using the appliance. That being said, the handle remains cool to touch. So take caution while pouring hot water. The cord length is long, and the light indicator has an auto cut-off feature which works well.

Design
The outer body of the Pigeon multi purpose Electric Kettle (Pigeon Kessel) is made using stainless steel. It has a glass lid with a stainless steel rim. The handle is made using plastic. It has a long cord that makes it possible to plug it in more comfortable and accessible. A small temperature control knob in the front is also made using plastic. The temperature knob has four settings – OFF, 70 degree Celsius, 100 degree Celsius and MAX. There is a light indicator button that shuts off automatically when the desired temperature is reached.
How we tested it
We tested the Pigeon by Stovekraft Kessel 1.2-Litre Multi-Purpose Kettle in a lot of different ways for over 4 months in our test kitchen. We used it to make –
- Boiled water
- Boiled eggs
- Tea with milk, sugar and chai patti
- Instant coffee
- Instant noodles – Maggi Desi Cheesy, Masala Maggi, Maggi Tomato Flavor
Our results
The Pigeon by Stovekraft Kessel 1.2-Litre Multi-Purpose Kettle performed brilliantly well when it came to boiling eggs and making tea and coffee. It was easy to clean and did not leave any marks at the bottom of the kettle.
We deliberately made three types of instant noodles in this pigeon multi purpose electric kettle as we wanted to see if the intensity of the masala makes any difference in the staining of the kettle. After multiple uses, we noticed that the noodles stick at the bottom and can get very hard to clean. We recommend that you only boil the noodles or pasta in the kettle and add the tastemaker/masala after they are cooked.
Another feature that we loved about the kettle is that it senses when the food has reached the desired temperature and auto cuts off the supply. It restarts the moment the temperature starts to drop. During our chai-making session, we found this feature to be extremely helpful as it helped avoid spillage.
The lid and the stainless steel body heat up. The lid is made using glass and is bound to heat up, but the handle was cool to touch.
This Pigeon multi purpose electric kettle is ideal for people who live alone, students, and even in a small office pantry. Handy and easy-to-use features. We liked the Pigeon by Stovekraft Kessel 1.2-Litre Multi-Purpose Kettle. We will be updating the story with fresh insights as we continue using this appliance in our test kitchen.
Conclusion
We used the Pigeon Kessel extensively in our test kitchen for over 6 months and gathered a few fresh insights. While this is a good multi-purpose appliance, we faced an issue with the top screw in the lid.
Over time the screw inside the top lid, where the water droplets accumulate when it condenses, starts to rust. Whenever we used the Kessel to heat the water, the rusted water droplets dripped back into the water. This happened even when it was being regularly cleaned and dried with a cloth.
We feel that either the exposed screw should have been concealed or made with a rust-proof material.
FAQs
We answered a few frequently asked questions about electric kettles.
1. How do you clean a pigeon kettle?
There are some Dos and Don’ts when it comes to cleaning an electric kettle. The easiest way to clean an electric kettle is by filling it with ½ equal portions of water and white vinegar. Once the water comes to a boil, shut off the kettle and let it cool down. Discard the water and vinegar and rinse it with water. Your electric kettle is just as new. Make sure you do not dampen the electric coil at the bottom (if your model has one). Do not clean the base of the kettle in this manner.
2. Should you fill a kettle through the spout?
No. It is not advisable to fill an electric kettle through the spout. Make sure you do not exceed the marked water line indicator or it may lead to burn incidents.
3. Can you leave water in a kettle?
No. You should not leave water in an electric kettle for longer hours as it can lead to limescale build up, which in turn ruins the appliance and changes the taste of water.
