Our Review Factors
What were we looking for? A well-rounded flavor of roasted peanuts with a distinct taste of the sweetener used or the lack of it. Along with this we were looking for ease of spreadability.
We tested the Pintola Peanut Butter on the following parameters –
1. Taste
The fresh flavor of roasted peanuts is what can make or break the entire experience of eating peanut butter. Apart from the taste of peanuts we were looking for the flavor of the respective sweeteners added. The caramel-like sweetness in the jaggery variant, and the bold, intense flavor of dark chocolate in the other one. In the classic variant, we were expecting a bit more sweetness than these two while the unsweetened is self explanatory.
Are these sweetened appropriately?
2. Texture (Consistency + Spreadability)
Smooth and easy to scoop is what defines a creamy peanut butter. In the crunchy variants we were looking for fresh-tasting chunks of peanuts in abundance.
Both should have a desirable consistency which makes it easy to spread. We checked how easy or cumbersome the peanut butter was to spread on toast.
3. Ingredients + Nutri Information
A clean ingredient list is always appreciated at Mishry. What are the prime ingredients used to make this peanut butter? Does it contain any additives and preservatives?
The protein, calories, fats and sugar content was checked during the review.
4. Others
- Appearance – Oil floating on top of nut butters is completely normal. Make sure you stir it vigorously before use. What was our experience here?
- Aroma – What is the dominant aroma? Roasted peanuts, jaggery/dark chocolate/sugar or is it the oil?
- Shelf life – Peanut butters typically have a shelf life of 6-12 months. How about these?
- Price – Competitive pricing or not?
Pintola Peanut Butter – Detailed Review
All the details about the product, their pros and cons are mentioned in the section below –
1. Creamy Organic Jaggery
Packed in a plastic jar, the organic jaggery peanut butter has a lot of oil floating on top. We could see this before we opened the pack, but do note that oil separation is very common in nut butters and it is recommended to store them upside down.
Pintola’s Organic Jaggery has a very clean ingredient list and is made using just three ingredients – roasted peanuts, whey protein concentrate and organic jaggery. It has a shelf life of 12 months and a 1 Kg pack is priced at Rs 625/-.
A single serve (32 gms) of this peanut butter provides 195 calories, 11.2 gm protein, 7.7 gm carbs, 12.2 gm fat and 0 gm added sugar. These are labeled as ‘high protein’, and rightly so. Compared to Pintola’s regular peanut butter, the protein content is higher by 3-4 gms (per serve).
The aroma is primarily of well-roasted peanuts.
The texture of this peanut butter is a mix of lumpy and runny. We had to stir very hard to give this peanut butter a mix as most peanut-paste had solidified at the bottom and the oil was floating on top. Once we mix it well, it spreads smoothly on hot toast.
When eaten as is, the PB has a smooth mouthfeel but there are a few solidified lumps here and there. This would be good for smoothies as the lumps will get blitzed with the rest of the ingredients. We loved the caramel-like sweetness and flavor of jaggery.
This has balanced sweetness levels and a wonderful roasted peanut taste. The taste of oil is slightly a bit more pronounced than it should be.
- Fresh aroma of roasted peanuts.
- Taste of roasted peanuts is spot on.
- We liked the caramel-like sweetness of jaggery.
- Balanced sweetness.
- High protein content in comparison to Pintola’s regular PB.
- Clean ingredient list.
- Due to oil separation, the taste and texture of the PB was slightly affected.
Need a PB that uses unrefined sugar used to sweeten it and has a high protein content? Pintola’s Organic Jaggery PB (Creamy) can be your pick.
2. Crunchy Dark Chocolate
This is a dark chocolate peanut butter that looks luscious and has bits of peanuts spread across the jar liberally. The PB has a dark brown color, just like dark chocolate.
The list of ingredients include roasted peanuts, dark chocolate paste, whey protein concentrate and stabilizer (INS471).
The ingredient list lists out dark chocolate paste. Whether it contains sugar or not is not mentioned separately. When searching for dark chocolate paste ingredients we found that it is usually made with chocolate, sugar and vegetable fat/butter. Upon inspecting the nutri-label we found that the added sugar is 4 gms. It provides 10 gms of protein per serve.
Aroma is a mix of chocolate and roasted peanuts. The spreadability is seamless. Unlike the above variant there was no oil separation in this one and it was easy to mix and spread. This is comparatively thicker and has a regular chocolate spread type of consistency.
Taste wise, this has balanced flavors of chocolate and peanuts. But the intense dark chocolate bitterness you expect from a dark chocolate seems to be missing here. The nuts are fresh tasting.
- High protein peanut butter.
- Liberal chunks of peanuts in the PB.
- Excellent spreadability.
- Very good chocolate and roasted peanut flavor.
- Not too sweet.
- When compared to the organic jaggery variant, this one scores minutely low on the ingredient/nutrition-label aspect.
Love the combination of chocolate and peanut butter? This is a delicious option that hits the bulls-eye.

3. Crunchy Classic
Price and packaging – Packed in a plastic jar, the classic (crunchy) peanut butter is priced at Rs 349/-. We received a sample sized pack as a part of our Back To School MOJO Box. The shelf life is 18 months.
Aroma and appearance – This has a fresh, nutty aroma. There is no oil separation on top of the butter.
Ingredients – Pintola’s Classic PB has four ingredients – roasted peanuts, sugar, hydrogenated vegetable oil (palm and rapeseed) and iodised salt.
Nutri Info – A single serve (32 gms) of this peanut butter provides 200 calories which are divided as 8 grams of protein, 6 grams of total carbohydrates, and 2 grams of added sugar.
Taste and texture – This is a semi-thick peanut butter which is easy to scoop and has superb spreadability. This PB glides very easily on a plain slice of bread. We could see a lot of small pieces of peanuts which were crunchy.
Fresh, nutty with sweet undertones. We loved the fresh tasting roasted peanuts. This is salted lightly.
This is a classic variant and doesn’t promise protein content higher than the rest, but does promise the slightly sweet and nutty flavor of peanut butter that we have all grown to love. And it surely delivers on that.
But the pack says it’s suitable for weight management. We say, be cautious as it contains added sugar, has hydrogenated vegetable oil and salt. If weight loss is your goal, we suggest opting for Pintola’s unsweetened natural PB.
- We liked the fresh, nutty taste of the peanut butter.
- Liberal crunchy chunks of peanuts.
- Good spreadability.
- No oil separation.
- The use of palm oil and rapeseed oil could have been swapped with better fats.
If you want a fresh-tasting classic, American-style Peanut Butter, this is a good option.
