Pickles can change an ordinary meal into an exciting one. Look at a bowl of simple dal-chawal, a plain paratha or a puri-bhaji. All complete, delicious meals. But when paired with some achaar – Superlative!
Unfortunately, making pickles at home is a complex and time-consuming process. That’s why readymade pickles are a boon for those who do not have access to homemade ones. We recently ordered The Little Farm Co’s Khatta Meetha Nimbu Achaar and evaluated its flavor, texture, price, aroma, and packaging.

Our Review Factors
What do we expect? We expect a pleasing sweet and sour flavor, balanced salt level and inviting aroma.
Let us discuss the review factors for The Little Farm Co Lemon Pickle in detail :
1. Taste
The flavor profile was one of the key parameters here. We are aiming for well-balanced flavors. The sweet and sour flavor proportion, the freshness of lemons, and the addition of masalas (saunf, ajwain) – how well do these elements come together?
Overall, how is the taste? Homestyle or store bought? Any industrial aftertaste?
2. Texture
The size and cut of the veggies impacts the overall experience of relishing the pickle. How are the lemons cut? Cubes, halves, shreds or large slices? Is the ratio of the syrup to the lemon pieces appropriate?
3. Other Parameters
Ingredients
Many commercially available pickles are loaded with preservatives, artificial flavorings and colors. Is the ingredient list clean? Or loaded with additives?
Price
Achaar making at home is a tedious task. Considering the convenience this ready to use pickle provides, does it offer value for money?
In addition, the packaging, shelf life, aroma, and appearance were some other parameters we considered.
Searching for the best mixed pickle. Your quest ends here.
The Little Farm Co Sweet & Sour Lemon Pickle – Detailed Review
Price + Packaging
This khatta meetha lemon pickle is packed in a glass jar and features eye-catching graphics. It holds 450 gm of the product and is priced at Rs. 350.
This pickle has a 1 year shelf life.
Main Ingredients
The main ingredients are as follows: lemon (80%), brown sugar and white sugar (50-50), red chili powder, saunf, garam masala, black salt, pink salt, and citric acid.
We appreciate the absence of artificial flavors and colors in the ingredient list. This is a plus because most commercially available pickles are filled with preservatives.
How did we test?
For an honest feedback, we tasted the product in the following manner :
- As it is
- Alongside everyday Indian meals including dal chawal, roti sabzi, chhole bhature and puri bhaji.
Aroma
We were instantly hit with a dominant aroma of sugar and lemon. It is very khatti-meethi.
Appearance
It has the appearance of a typical homemade nimbu ka achaar. The pickle is blackish-brown in hue. The lemon pieces are rather large and sliced horizontally.
Taste + Texture
This pickle has a lovely sweet and sour flavor. It is fresh, tasty, and has a distinct homestyle touch. The salt level is balanced and well-rounded.
The notes of ajwain and saunf enhance the flavor even further. We really liked the sweet chunks. However, as per individual taste preferences, the likability might differ.
Texture-wise, the lemon pieces are not squishy/soft. The lemon peel is thick and has a distinct chewiness which makes the pickle all the more appetizing. The proportion of the syrup is more than the lemon pieces.
Pros
- Homestyle flavors.
- Well balanced salt level.
- Fresh & tasty.
- Clean ingredient list.
- Inviting aroma.
Best Suited For
No time to prepare achaar from scratch? Lack access to homemade achaar? We certainly suggest trying this sweet and sour lemon pickle.
