Mishry Rating
Summary
In terms of taste, Urban Platter broth powder has an umami flavor but can feel a bit oversalted for some. This is a very convenient and beginner-friendly product.
Vegetable broths are an economic and flavorful way of using up vegetable trimmings, peels, ends, tops, and even stalks. Thinner than stocks but more flavorful than water, vegetable broths serve a variety of culinary purposes.
Veggie broths are used to make soups and curries more flavorful, but it can be a bit tedious to make them often at home. Gathering the veggies, adding measured spices and herbs, letting all these simmer isn’t a quick process. Here’s where instant broth powders and soup cubes come into play.
As the name suggests, instant, these are quick and convenient to prepare, and reduce the manual effort drastically! Urban Platter’s broth powder is one such product. Ease of preparation, taste, consistency and some other parameters have been discussed in Team Mishry’s Urban Platter vegetable bouillon and broth powder review.

This ready-to-cook broth powder comes in a PET jar. In the dry stage, it had a dominant garlic aroma.
As per instructions on the label, we added a teaspoon (4 grams) of the powder to 250 ml of water. We mixed this concoction gently until no lumps were seen. This dissolved quite effortlessly. PS- we added warm water. We did not add any additional flavoring agents/spices to arrive at a fair conclusion.
Once mixed, the consistency was pretty decent, it would provide a nice structure to the main dish. In terms of appearance, this broth powder turned into a golden-hued liquid that had a cloudy appearance. We turned this broth into a clear veggie soup using vegetables like beans and carrots.
At Mishry, whenever we discuss the taste, we include the ingredient list too. Can the mentioned ingredients be tasted, are the flavors prominent, is there a balance between them? With this broth powder, we observed a very strong and desirable garlic taste. However, we cannot determine whether the brand has used garlic or not as the ingredient list doesn’t specifically mention its use. Similarly, no mention of specific vegetables or spices has been provided. We would have appreciated a bit more transparency in the ingredient list.
Taste-wise, we found the broth to be a bit oversalted. Once the broth turned into a soup, the saltiness reduced a bit with the addition of vegetables. This definitely doesn’t need additional salt, but it may seem a tad bit overwhelming to those who are used to foods with low salt levels.
Another point that we would like to throw some light on is the addition of sugar in the broth powder. Homemade stocks and broths don’t really need the addition of extra sugar. They are ‘sweetened’ and balanced with the natural flavor of veggies when cooked together.
