Did you know that all momos are dim sums but all dim sums are not momos! Momos are mainly made using a wheat flour casing, while the dimsum casing can be made using potato starch, rice starch or cornstarch.
Lately frozen momos have gained massive popularity owing to the convenience they provide. We picked three popular brands of vegetarian frozen momos for our review – Prasuma, Handi and WOW Momos. After tasting them using two cooking methods, deep-frying and steaming, we chose the vegetarian momos by Prasuma as our Top Pick. Why did they inch ahead of the other two? Let’s dig into some details as to what made these the best frozen veg momos.

Best Ready-to-Eat Momos Online- Everything You Need To Know
To find the best packaged veg momos, we started off by researching the different brands available in the Indian market, the price range and packaging.
1. Reviewed Brands
We picked three brands easily available in Delhi NCR through online portals –
- Prasuma Momos
- WOW Momos
- Handi Veg Momos
Brands like Momo King, Fattiger and SteamUp Momos, although popular, were not a part of the review due to unavailability or limited availability.
2. Available Sizes
Different brands have different sized packages.
- Prasuma Momos come in two sizes – 10 pieces and 24 pieces.
- Handi Veg Momos come in a single size pack holding 12 momos.
- WOW Momos comes in two sizes – 10 pieces and 20 pieces.
3. Price Range
All the above mentioned variants are priced between Rs 140/- to Rs 150/- for a pack of 10-12 vegetarian momos.
4. Packaging
Depending on the amount of momos inside the pack, frozen momos come in two types of packaging – pouch pack and tray packs.
Best Frozen Veg Momos- Our Review Factors
To review the vegetarian frozen momos, we set six broad parameters –
1. The Stuffing – Flavor
The stuffing of the vegetarian momos in India is primarily cabbage, carrots and onions. Some vendors also make corn, cheese, paneer and soya stuffed momos.
For our review we gauged the stuffing for all the brands by asking the following questions – How is the filing? What is the combination of veggies used? Is there too much cabbage or is it balanced with other veggies as well? How are the seasoning and spice levels? Any dominant spice or herb?
2. The Casing – Thickness And Texture
We all know that an extremely thick casing can reduce the overall experience. If the casing is too thin, it can make them very delicate to handle and lead to lots of breakage. Which is why we wanted to check the casing for the momos.
How is the casing/wrapper? Is it thin or thick? If it is thick, is it too doughy or does it have uniform folds? The point where the casing folds, is that too thick? Was the casing seasoned on its own?
3. Stuffing to Casing Ratio
For a momo to be wholesome, it needs to have that juicy, satisfying bite. It is not possible without that balance of stuffing and wrapper. We checked the momos for empty pockets and if the ratio of casing and wrapping is unbalanced.
4. The Chutney
How can we ever forget the iconic, tongue-burning momo chutney. The chutney is a very essential part of the whole momo eating experience. Which is why we thought this element is very crucial to be tested. The chutney isn’t supposed to be sweet or mild. It should be spicy enough to go well with a relatively mildly spiced momos.
Firstly, does the frozen momo brand give the chutney with the portion of momos? If yes, how spicy is it? What is the consistency? Is it sweet, tangy, sour?
5. Value For Money
Does the pricing justify the product quality? If the product is priced much higher than its competition, why?
6. Appearance
A major aspect of testing frozen food involves us checking them for the way they look. How were the momos folded? Were they uniform in shape and size? Any pieces that burst open?

Prasuma – Top Pick | Add To Cart |
WOW – Also Recommended | – |
Handi | – |
Our review process was standardised for all the brands. Steaming and deep frying are both very popular methods to cook momos, which is why we selected these two methods to test them. We did not choose the pan-frying method to test these as Handi momos cannot be cooked using that technique.
We steamed all the momos in a rice cooker for the amount of time mentioned on the pack individually. The momos were deep fried in refined oil on medium flame until they were golden brown.
1. Prasuma Momos Vegetable – Mishry Top Pick
We ordered the 10-piece pack of Prasuma Vegetable Momos. Inside the pack there were 2 sachets of the momo sauce, one had burst open and spread all over the frozen momos. None of the momos were broken. When cooked using the steaming method, the momos were done within 3 minutes (once the water had boiled).
Prasuma Momos are the only ones which have paneer in them apart from cabbage and carrots. The seasoning is delicate and leaves room for you to dunk this in a spicy vat of chutney. The casing is consistently thin and at no point does it feel doughy or underdone. When we deep fried the momos, the result was a crunchy casing.
Coming to the momo sauce! The sauce is not something we would go back for. It comes closer to a tomato ketchup than a momo-sauce.
Earlier we did a full-fledged review for Prasuma Momos. You can read the details here.

2. Wow! Momo Darjeeling Veg Momos – Also Recommended
We ordered the 20-piece pack of WOW! Momos. It has 4 sauce packets inside. Upon opening the pack we could see a lot of broken pieces and for our review we could only salvage 3-4 momos that were intact. WOW! Momos were done within 3 minutes of steaming. They did not fry as evenly as our Top Pick.
The casing is a bit thicker than Prasuma in comparison, but otherwise it is not doughy. The stuffing is a mix of cabbage and carrots primarily. The seasoning of the stuffing is a bit spicy with a prominent black pepper kick. These are relatively spicy but the garlicky flavor punch you need from momos was missing.
The chutney is very spicy and fiery! The chilli heat is very dry and hits the back of your throat. We did not like it as much.

- The pepper in the momo stuffing is pleasant.
What We Didn’t Like
- The chutney has a very unidimensional heat.
- Most pieces in our pack were broken.
3. Handi Exotic Veg Momos
We ordered the Handi Exotic Veg Momos which come in a 12 piece pack. There were no broken momos inside the tray pack and it comes with 2 pouches of chutney. These momos took the longest to cook using the steaming method (10 minutes after the water had boiled). When deep fried, the casing turned very crunchy.
The stuffing is primarily made of grated cabbage. Carrots and onions are not prominent in the momos at all. The filling, although well-seasoned, is too mushy. The casing is the thickest amongst all the contenders, which would explain why it should be cooked for longer. The sauce is not something we would recommend at all.

- The texture the grated cabbage provides to the stuffing is not something we would go back for.
- It takes a longer time to cook when compared to the other contenders.
- The casing is the thickest.
Our Top Picks & Recommendations
Why did we choose Prasuma Vegetable Momos as our Top Pick? Why do we Also Recommend WOW Momos?
Three things that can make or break a momo – the casing, the stuffing and the chutney.
Prasuma has a thin casing and flavorful stuffing which helped it take the lead. They have the best ‘bite’. From the even cooking of the momos to the well balanced seasoning, a lot went right for Prasuma. We Also Recommend WOW Momos. Even though the pack we received had a lot of broken pieces, which reduced the overall experience, the momos are also delicious and stuffed well. The ratio of casing-stuffing was the best in WOW Momos.
None of the chutneys were a hit amongst our reviewers.
