Tastiest Cheese Cube Brands in India for Your Party Platter

Mother Dairy Cheese Cubes emerged as our winner. They had the creamiest texture and a lovely cheese flavor and mouthfeel. We also recommend Amul Cheese Cubes.

Cheese cubes are processed cheese chiplets that can be made using cow’s milk, sheep’s milk, or goat’s milk. These also contain salt which makes them ready to consume.

Neatly packed little cubes of cheese are the perfect on-the-go snack and a great addition to your party platter. Pair it with a few different styles of crackers, olives, dried fruits, and nuts to make an interesting, economical cheeseboard at home.

We reviewed five brands of cheese cubes – Amul, Mother Dairy, Go Cheese, D’lecta, and Britannia. We tasted them as a cocktail snack with cherry tomatoes and green olives to check which brand of cheese cube is the creamiest, tastiest one for your party platter.

Mother Dairy Cheese Cubes was voted as our Top Pick. We also recommend Amul Cheese Cubes. Here is why we think that these cheese cubes are the best cheese cube brands in India.

In this section of our cheese cube brands review, we will discuss the features, pros, and cons of each brand in detail. But before that, here is a comparison chart of all five brands of cheese cubes mentioning their price, net weight, shelf life, and nutritional information.

1. Available Brands

Some of the most easily available cheese cube brands in India are –

  • Amul Cheese Cubes
  • Britannia Cheese Cubes
  • Mother Dairy Cheese Cubes
  • D’lecta Cheese Cubes
  • Milky Mist
  • The Laughing Cow
  • Go Cheese

2. Main Ingredients

The main ingredients used to make processed cheese cubes or cheese chiplets include cheese, water, milk solids, and salt. The proportions can vary from brand to brand.

The ingredient list of most cheese cubes also mentions the addition of emulsifiers and preservatives. This helps in increasing the shelf life of processed cheese.

3. Available Sizes and Packaging

Processed cheese is available in the form of individually wrapped cubes or chiplets. They are also available in tin packaging and block forms. The bigger packages are meant for families with higher consumption of processed cheese or people who are using processed cheese to grate on top of their cheese toast or baked pasta.

4. Price Range

On an average, the price range of a single carton containing 8-10 cheese cubes can be anywhere between Rs 110/- to Rs 150/-. The price range varies from brand to brand.

5. Shelf life

The shelf life of processed cheese cubes is between 6-9 months approximately. Do check the label when you purchase the cheese cubes.

6. Nutritional Facts

Do keep in mind that the nutritional content of processed cheese and fresh cheese varies a lot. While looking at processed cheese cubes, you should be looking at three things – calcium content, sodium levels, and calories.

As per the  International Osteoporosis Foundation, 30 grams of hard cheese like Cheddar provides 240 mg of calcium and 60 gm of feta provides 270 mg of calcium. On the other hand (on an average) 100 gms of processed cheese cubes provide anywhere between 300-600 mg of calcium.

As processed cheese has added salt, it is advised to check the label for sodium content before consumption. Calorie-wise too they differ vastly.

7. Availability

Almost all brands of cheese cubes are easily available online on popular grocery shopping portals as well as offline in grocery stores.

Cheese Cube Brands in India – Our Factors of Consideration

While nutritional labels and packaging play a substantial role in deciding the winner, flavor and texture take the front seat as deciding factors. For our cheese cube review, we set out the following prominent parameters –

1. The Flavor Of Cheese

The flavor of the cheese is influenced by multiple factors during storage and processing. Some of the factors include the source of ingredients, the milk used to make cheese, the procedure used to make the cheese, and even storage conditions.

Unlike natural cheese, processed cheese is not naturally aged, so expecting that cheddar-like sharpness would not be fair.

So when we say we wanted to gauge the flavor of cheese, we meant the signature cheese aroma and taste. What is the degree of cheese-like pungency we can taste and smell? Is it overpowering, balanced, or too subtle?

What quality are we looking for in a cheese cube? A good quality processed cheese should have a uniform color, smooth surface, and a typical flavor.

2. Salt Levels

Are the salt levels balanced or are the cheese cubes oversalted? A processed cheese cube being under-salted is also a drawback.

3. Texture

How creamy and soft is the texture of the cheese cube? A processed cheese cube should not be hard to eat. Neither should it be chalky. We tested the cheese cubes for the correct texture.

4. Color

How pale or yellow is the color of the cheese cube? Does it look fresh?

5. Quantity

How many cubes are there in a single pack?

6. Price

Is the pack of cheese cubes priced competitively? If priced on the higher side comparatively, is the quality of cheese cubes justified?

Who Is This Review For?

This review is for everyone who consumes cheese cubes regularly. This review will come in handy for when you’re grocery shopping and need to select the best tasting, creamiest cheese cubes for your home.

This will also help people looking for a cheese cube brand for their party platter.

How Did We Pick Brands?

We picked all the cheese cube brands that have been in the market for a long time or showed a prominent presence on grocery shopping apps.

We only picked packs that were cubes or chiplets. We did not pick block or tin packs as they have a different end-use altogether.

The Brands We Picked

The contenders for our review are –

  • Amul Cheese Cubes
  • Britannia Cheese Cubes
  • Mother Dairy Cheese Cubes
  • D’lecta Cheese Cubes
  • Go Cheese Cubes

Our Review Process

For our review process, we blind-tasted the cheese cubes using two ways –

Dry tasting

During this phase, we tasted the cheese cubes as it is to check for their salt levels, creaminess, and the actual flavor of the cheese. How pungent is the cheese? How creamy is the cube and does it have the signature cheese mouthfeel? We also checked for its color.

Mishry Secret Sauce - Tasting the cheese cubes. Note - After the pictures were taken, the wrappers of the cubes were removed so that we could not identify the brand.

Mishry Secret Sauce For this phase, we turned the cheese cubes into bite-sized cocktail snacks. We divided a single cheese cube into four pieces. In a toothpick, we added two pieces of cheese cubes, single cherry tomato, and a pitted green olive. We didn’t add any herbs or spices.

This phase helped us taste the cheese cubes with other ingredients and we could gauge the flavor in the end-use of cheese cubes correctly.

After the first round of blind tasting was complete, two brands with the least intensity of cheese flavor and undesirable texture were eliminated. We re-tasted the remaining three brands of cheese cubes and chose our winners.

1. Mother Dairy Cheese Cubes – Mishry Top Pick

Mother Dairy Cheese Cubes come in a slidable blue carton pack. A single 180 gm craton is priced at Rs 110/- and contains 10 chiplets (cheese cubes). Each chiplet weighs 18 gms. Mother Dairy processed cheese is also available in slice form.

When we dry-tasted the Mother Dairy Cheese Cubes as it is, they seemed a bit oversalted. But when it came to texture, Mother Dairy Cheese cubes were the softest and creamiest ones amongst all the five cheese brands.

The fact that it is oversalted did not pose an issue when we tasted it as a cocktail starter. In fact, it added just the right amount of saltiness to the bite-sized snack.

The characteristic processed cheese smell was present and it wasn’t too pungent. Keeping these collective facts and findings, we chose Mother Dairy Cheese cubes as our Top Pick.

We would have appreciated it if Mother Dairy had mentioned the sodium content on the pack.

2. Amul Processed Cheese Chiplets Cubes – Also Recommended

A much-loved dairy brand in India, Amul, is a household name when it comes to milk products especially butter and cheese. Amul processed cheese has a lot of nostalgia and familiarity of flavors attached to it.

Amul cheese cubes come in a slidable cardboard box. A 200-gram carton is priced at Rs 114/- and has 8 cheese cubes. Each chiplet weighs 25 gms. Amul processed cheese is also available in a block form, tin pack, and cheese slices.

During our review, we found out that the Amul cheese cubes have a smooth and creamy texture. It is not crumbly or dry at all. The cheese flavor is delicious and has balanced salt levels. That being said, the only reason Amul slid by one position is that our Top Pick (Mother Dairy) was much creamier in comparison.

We would have appreciated it if Amul had mentioned the calcium content on the pack.

Pros

  • The Amul Cheese Cubes are very soft.
  • The texture is creamy.
  • The cheesy mouthfeel is definitely present.
  • Salt levels are very balanced.

Cons

  • There are no actual cons, but in comparison to our Top Pick, the cheese cubes were a tad bit less creamy.

3. Britannia Cheese Cubes

Britannia cheese cubes come in a blue-colored cardboard box. A 200-gram carton is priced at Rs 150/- and has 10 cheese cubes. Each chiplet weighs 20 gms. Britannia processed cheese is available in different quantities with 10 cubes and 30 cubes. It is also available in block form and slices.

Britannia Cheese Cubes were dry and had a very chalky mouthfeel. The smoothness and creaminess expected from a cube of processed cheese were missing. The cheese flavor and salt levels were apt but the texture of the cheese cubes took Britannia down in our review.

Britannia cheese cubes were eliminated in round 1 of blind tasting.

Britannia cheese cubes are priced the highest amongst all the contenders. We feel the taste and texture of the cheese do not justify the pricing.

Go cheese cubes come in a yellow and white-colored cardboard box. A 200-gram carton is priced at Rs 125/- and has 8 cheese cubes. Each chiplet weighs 25 gms. Go processed cheese comes in slices form as well.

Go Cheese cubes are extremely soft. While we were trying to insert these in the toothpick, we felt that this was very delicate to handle. The rich, creamy texture of the cheese is spot on.

Go Cheese lacked a strong cheese flavor. The pungency of cheese is missing and the low salt levels contribute to make this fall flat. Due to these reasons, Go Cheese was also eliminated in round 1 of tasting.

This is the second most expensive cheese cube brand in our review, but the quality justifies the price.
